Intro:
My name is Benedikt Fries and together with my best friend Niels Holdorf I’m running Shibumi. We founded our label 3 years ago and we’re very happy with it, for it’s a huge luck if you’re able to earn your money with your biggest passion. We started only with ties, but now we’re offering all kinds of classic men’s accessories like pocket squares, braces, scarves, socks, belts, shoes, hats… In our online shop, we have customers from all over the world and we’re pleased that we have amazingly friendly and loyal customers. Many of them became friends to us.
Outfit:
I already tried many different tailors; with some I had good, with some bad experiences. In my opinion, Kotaro Miyahira from Sartoria Corcos in Florence is a genius and I don’t know any other tailor who works as precise as him. Also he declines many requests if customers ask him for details he doesn’t like, because he has his own style and he’s proud of that (and I respect that very much). In this outfit, I’m wearing one of my favorite suits from him. It’s a rather heavy weight wool/mohair mix in light navy. I don’t like real navy on myself, I think a bit lighter shade suits me much better (pun intended).
The tie is from our latest Shibumi fall/winter collection and it’s one of my favorites. It’s a very special pattern and I love the unusual, rich color combination. Of course I do also like repp stripes, grenadine and knit ties, but printed silk are always my go-to ties.
Like many #menswear clowns, I’m mostly wearing brown suede shoes. Those are my favorite shoes at the moment, a u-tip oxford (I don’t wear derbies) on the popular u-last from Vass, exclusively made for us.
Usually I go for bespoke or made to measure for shirts, but my button down shirts come from Kamakura. The roll of their button down collars is impressive and I’m also satisfied with the fit. Of course, they don’t have any romantic handwork, but style and fit is more important than that.
